We toured the physical rehabilitation center of a local teaching hospital to see the work being done for those in need of prosthetics and orthotics. The work here is to be commended yet the fabrication technology and design of the prostheses were very much behind the times. The engineers did a tremendous job with what is at their disposal, however, there is no one present to push the work into a more forward thinking space.
The result is a host of artificial limbs that are (for the most part) quick and dirty yet lack in evolutionary momentum.
This place is full of opportunities!
